About me

I was born in London into a family of teachers. It was an unconventional background as both my parents were artists. There was also an international element which gave me an interest in language, culture and travel.

This led me to the Netherlands which I loved as a country and “sister” language. The roots of English are in the Frisian language.

I worked in various areas in the Netherlands, in administration, caring for the elderly and in upholstery. I went to the Hout- en Meubilerings College and at one point had my own workplace and shop where I restored antique furniture.

In 2004 I started teaching English in the Community Centres in Amsterdam and this work quickly grew. It was then that I decided to become professional and was successful in studying for the CELTA diploma. This is the best diploma in this area. I have been giving private lessons, group lessons and Business English in the office. I taught Business English at Nuon for a year.

I am interested in current afffairs and I have a valuable insight into Britain today via my sister, who works for The Guardian newspaper and my brother who is standing in the elections for the Council and Parliament.
